Al-Hussain Mosque

The al-Hussein Mosque, also known as the Mosque of al-Imam al-Husayn and the Mosque of Sayyidna al-Husayn, is a mosque and mausoleum of Husayn ibn Ali that was built in 1154 and later rebuilt in 1874. The mosque is located in Al-Hussain, Cairo, Egypt, near the Khan El-Khalili bazaar and the famous Al Azhar Mosque. It is regarded as one of Egypt's holiest Islamic sites. Some Shia Muslims believe Husayn's head (ra's mubarak) is buried on the grounds of the mosque, where a mausoleum is now located and what remains of the Fatimid architecture in the structure.
